Item: The Ost Medal or Winter Battle in the East 1941–42 Medal was a military award of the Wehrmacht which was created by ordinance of Adolf Hitler on 26 May 1942.
The Eastern Medal was awarded to any member of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS “in recognition of experience in the struggle against the Bolshevik enemy and the Russian winter within the period from 15 November 1941 to 15 April 1942.” It was also awarded posthumously to any service member who died in the line of duty within the Soviet Union. It was widely called the Frozen Meat Medal or the “Order of the Frozen Flesh”

Item: De oost medaille of de Winterslag in het Oosten 1941-42-medaille was een militaire onderscheiding van de Wehrmacht die op 26 mei 1942 werd ingesteld bij verordening van Adolf Hitler.
De oost medaille werd toegekend aan elk lid van de Wehrmacht en Waffen-SS "als erkenning voor ervaring in de strijd tegen de bolsjewistische vijand en de Russische winter in de periode van 15 november 1941 tot 15 april 1942." Het werd ook postuum toegekend aan elk militair lid dat stierf tijdens zijn dienstverband binnen de Sovjet-Unie. Het werd algemeen de Frozen Meat Medal of de 'Orde van het bevroren vlees' genoemd
