Item: Nahkampfspange (Close Combat Clasp)
The Nahkampfspange was a German military award for soldiers who took part in close-quarters combat on the front lines. Instituted in 1942, it was awarded in three grades:
Bronze – 15 days of combat
Silver – 30 days
Gold – 50 days (extremely rare)
The design features an eagle with a sword, surrounded by oak leaves and hand grenades. The clasp was considered one of the highest decorations for bravery in direct combat. The gold version was even regarded as equivalent to the Knight’s Cross.
